The Moon Part 1: The Call of the Wild Soul

FREE Creative Writing Class

I’m launching my You Tube channel today with a free creative writing class on The Moon! It includes close readings of Lucille Clifton’s poetry, and tie-ins to Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes.

You can watch Writing with the Tarot: The Moon Part One The Call of the Wild Soul here.

As I was teaching this class, I told my students that The Moon has been demonized because of its association with the feminine. Some of its negative traditional meanings are illness, illusion, or insanity. Even though I suffer from chronic migraine, I’ve never personally experienced t]The Moon Tarot card as a sign of illness.

The irony was that night my mother experienced an intestinal blockage. I took her to the ER and she was diagnosed with cancer. It was shocking as she’s always been healthy. My father had heart disease and diabetes, and died at the age of 51. One of the things I’ve always counted on is my mother’s side of the family being healthy.

The days that followed held all the uncertainty that is traditionally associated with the Moon card. During the six days she was in the hospital in June, we didn’t know what was going on.

During this time, the Tarot offered support in some of the most uncannily accurate daily readings I’ve ever experienced. I finally felt like I was living the Tarot, and may write more about this more in the future.

For now, I feel lucky we live in a part of the country with some of the best hospitals. I was able to transfer her to one. We are also lucky the diagnosis was lymphoma, which is highly treatable. She finally began chemo this past week, and is doing well.

Strangely enough, I didn’t pull The Moon Tarot card again during the two months leading to her treatment.
